eBay Early 19th Century Tole Painted Tin Artist’s Work Box w Contents with Original Glass Ink Pot Another incredible estate find I hate to part with. The painting shows that a man has climbed up to his love via a rope ladder. Are they eloping? This box is so interesting, so beautiful, and so well made, not to mention the stunning painting on the hinged lid. There are so many parts to it: When you first open the box you will find a large, lift out tray, probably for paper. Beneath that is another, smaller tray, a small round box with handle & another small rectangular hinged box. Lifting up the middle section, you will find another small round lidded box and the original, hand blown glass ink bottle, w no chips or cracks! Is this is mint condition? NO! It’s been well used and well loved. This was probably someone’s prized possession, one of those things that if she could have, she’d have taken it with her. This box isn’t lightweight tho. It’s got some heft to it, being over 5 pounds, hence the side handles. This fine antique treasure would grace any table or desk and would certainly be far more than a “conversation piece”. It would be a wonderful gift for that special writer, artist, or collector in your life. I’m also uncertain of the origin of this wonderful piece. Definitely European but that’s as far as I’ve gotten with it. I have looked and looked and have failed to find anything to compare it to. It may truly be one of a kind.
