Royal Windsor 2 Cups & Saucer Hammersley Purple & Yellow Pansies 1950-60’s wGold A beautiful ROYAL WINDSOR ( a Trademark of HAMMERSLEY) Set of 2 DEMITASSE CUPS & SAUCERS in the PANSY Pattern #D3121, EMBOSSED FLUTED, Circa 1950’s-early 1960’s from Longton, Staffordshire, England DESCRIPTION: This superb quality china has hand decorated colors that are bright and vivid. This is on a scalloped, embossed rim blank of high white fine bone china with a bold gold trim on the edges, feet and the fancy handle. We just love the beautiful purple and yellow pansy flowers on this demitasse set. The multi-colored floral sprays are sprinkled over the set. The color palette used is purple, yellow, green, and grey on white w/gold. The grey is used on the ghost leaves that provide depth to the design. CONDITION: While this demitasse set of 2 cups & saucers set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. There are no utensil marks. There is no gold or color wear. See the photos. Dimensions: The demitasse cups have a heigth of 2 1/4″ and a diameter of 2 9/16″ with a capacity of 3 ounces. The saucers have a diameter of 4 5/8″ and a height of 5/8″.HISTORY/MARKS: Hammersley & Company, manufacturer of bone china at Alsager Pottery in Longton, England, traces their history back to Harvey Adams & Co. 1869-1885. Titus Hammersley was a partner and continued the concern as Harvey Adams & Company retiring in 1872. George Harris Hammersley continued in partnership with Harvey Adams, but was replaced by his brother Gilbert Hammersley about 1885. The business then traded as Hammersley & Co. & Gilbert was joined by his sons, Eric in 1910 and Leslie in 1919. The pottery was incorporated in 1932 becoming Hammersley & Co. (Longton) Ltd. Family control of the business continued until June of 1970 when it was acquired by Carborundum Company (the owner of Spode Ltd.) The mark Hammersley Spode was used 1981-1988. The Hammersley branded business was discontinued in 1988. Royal Windsor was a trading name and recognized back stamp of Hammersley China and had been used for at least 150 years by the Hammersley family in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The Hammersleys also traded under the name Palissy. We think the Pansy pattern D3121 was produced in the 1950’s-early 1960’s time period. Aynsley acquired the long sought after Hammersley China back stamp and trading name as well as some copyrighted patterns and decals. Anysley also acquired the rights to Royal Windsor, but have not done anything with Royal Windsor since the early 1960’s. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
