In another highly anticipated reissue from the vaults of the legendary 70s label TSG, P-VINE will be reissuing Reality’s unknown classic Disco Party on it’s RARE GROOVE imprint. Almost nothing is known about the band apart from their association with TSG, and the label’s divine touch that picked out the best unknown musicians from New York’s bustling funk and soul scene. This reissue is no exception and is packed with funk and disco jams that surely excite RARE GROOVE fans and delight those recently enjoying the reissues of Tomorrow’s People.The rapturous opener “Reality” gets the party underway with an extended groove-ridden jam, rich with domineering organs and slick funk guitars. The high-pace energy of the track bursts through and rushes the next. On tracks like “Movin & Groovin” where they calm the dynamics, they do so at no cost to the onwards movement and progression, a trait the album shares with the motorik drum-beat of krautrock records. From start to finish this is one album that doesn’t let up it’s commitment to party spirit. The TSG reissue project, the pinnacle of rare groove, goes to the depths with the fourth installment. It’s no exaggeration to say that the original TSG release is a very rare one. There are many great and rare albums on the Tax Scam label, including TIGER LILLY with the Jackson Sisters, but TSG stands at the top of the list, and the veil is finally lifted from the most mysterious of them all. This is truly RARE GROOVE! The GROOVE DIGGERS team has solved many difficult problems in rare groove archaeology, and this is the most difficult and mysterious one lurking in the tiger’s hole of the final destination. The only clue is that the same material was released with a different jacket on the mysterious GRAHAM INTERNATIONAL label, which is also rare, but easier to find than the TSG version. Incidentally, the best of TSG’s ULTIMATES was also released on this label in a different jacket, which is of course also rare, but it’s a long story, so let’s talk about the relationship between these two labels next time. As you can see, there were a lot of tax-scam labels in the 70’s, which were released for other purposes (i.e., for tax purposes), and their rarity was ensured by the small number of pressings due to their “reasons”.
