FRANCISCAN ~ Early Earthenware OPEN SUGAR BOWL – NO LID (Trio by Esta James) ~ California Description of item… Here we have a wonderful early MCM hand crafted quality earthenware OPEN SUGAR BOWL (NO LID) designed by Esta James for the FRANCISCAN series in the “Trio” pattern and produced by Gladding, McBean and Co. of California – displaying abstract flowers and leaves in hues of green and brown…on a cream background with tiny speckles.It measures approx. 4″ long (add 1″ for each side handle) x 3″ wide x 2-1/4″ side high.It is in very good maintained (barely/hardly used) condition with no chips or cracks or crazing, no damage noted…appearing to have had little or no use. The bottom is marked, “FRANCISCAN ~ MADE IN CALIFORNIA USA ~ Color-Seal ~ GLADDING, MCBEAN & CO. ~ ©OVEN.SAFE®.” Came from a well cared for private home collection of many years, however the exact age is unknown, pattern discontinued, production run from 1954-1958. This item weighs approx. 1/2 lb., add 1-1/2 lbs. or so for the packing box and packing material. I combine shipping when safe and practical for all items purchased. NOTE: I currently have other matching Franciscan “Trio” pieces on auction.
